What is the Deendayal Upadhyay Home Stay Scheme?

For the last 2 years, everyone has suffered losses due to this Corona epidemic due to which the economy of everyone's household has collapsed.

Keeping this in mind, the government is trying to manage the economy. That's why a new scheme has been started for the betterment of the state. 

That is Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Home Stay Scheme Largely called The Homestay scheme...

Through this scheme, the government has started to promote the development of rural tourism.

Along with this, accommodation facilities are also provided keeping the tourists in mind.

This will also increase the employment of local people and they will not have to face problems like migration.


The Government of Uttarakhand has also provided government assistance for renovating old homestays and developing new homestays in the state, as well as furnishing them and connecting them with other facilities.

This Scheme is already showing Good results in strengthening the Mountains District economy. Recently the government published data where that clearly shows the per capita income of districts like Chamoli, Rudaprayag is growing rapidly.  It is also helping the state to boost its economy from 50 thousand crore to 72 thousand crore in just a few years.

The objective of the Deendayal Upadhyaya Home Stay Scheme?

Uttarakhand government has started this scheme so that in the state-

• Can promote employment.

• Serious problems like migration can be prevented.

• Employment should be provided to local residents from their villages.

• Also the youth get employment in their villages and migration can be stopped.


Help provided by the Government

Under this scheme, the government will also help in providing economic benefits to the local villagers.

• Under this, to start the homestay construction scheme in rural hilly areas, the government will provide a maximum subsidy of 33% or up to Rs 10 lakh on bank loans to the building owners and a maximum rebate of up to Rs 1.50 lakh on interest in the first 5 years.

• For homestay construction in plain areas, a maximum subsidy of up to Rs 7.50 lakh will be given on capital and rebate on interest up to Rs 1 lakh in the first 5 years.

Where will the scheme be implemented?

This scheme will be implemented in the entire state except the municipal corporation areas.

And will be provided to the homeowner who lives there with his family.

Along with this, young youth can get employment in the construction of homestays and catering on their own land on the main local highway so that this facility can be made available to the tourists coming from outside and for this, the government is also providing a subsidy of up to 25%. Selection Process of Beneficiaries

To run this scheme and properly select the beneficiaries, the state government has also constituted a committee in which the District Magistrate has been made the Chairman and its members are the SDO, GM DIC, Bank Officer NABARD representative, and Tourism Development Officer of the district. Uttarakhand Tourism Department has taken the responsibility of promoting all the registered homestays.

The Tourism Department will promote the registered homestays in its own way so that the homestay owners can run a good business.


Important terms and conditions of Deendayal Upadhyaya Home Stay Scheme.

To avail of the benefits of this scheme, the beneficiaries are required to follow some rules which are as follows-

• For homestay construction, it is mandatory for the beneficiary to be a native of Uttarakhand state.

• It will be mandatory to be the owner of the proposed land for homestay construction.

• This scheme will be available only to those who live with the homeowner's family.

• It will be mandatory for the owner of the homestay to make arrangements for food and drinks for the tourists.

• After identifying the beneficiaries in this scheme, it will be mandatory to register themselves with the Tourism Department.

• Night stay arrangements for tourists can be as low as one room or as high as 6 rooms.

• It is also mandatory to provide necessary hospitality facilities for the tourists.

• Homestays in villages falling on the track route or in nearby villages will be given first priority so that the maximum number of people can benefit from it.

• There will be a chance to understand the mountain cuisine, flowers, and mountain culture, which will attract more tourists to visit Uttarakhand.
